First attempt

Hi friends,

This is my first attempt at blogging... Just a test run to see how this all works.

We arrived safely and are getting ourselves settled in here on Kauai. The girls started school last week and are beginning to make friends. We've been busy exploring the island and discovering the local "wildlife". Kate was in the bath for a good 30 minutes before she realized she was sharing her bath with a gecko. Both girls check the pool each night for frogs. (The frogs are HUGE and like to swim laps after we go to bed.) I now understand the expression "chorus of sounds". Between the chirrup chatter of the geckos, the insects, and the low "boomp" of the frogs jumping in and out of the pool, it feels like there's a fiesta going on outside and I wasn't invited!

2 nights ago we got up to watch the lunar eclipse, which was TOTALLY AMAZING! The sky was crystal clear and we watched under a shower of shooting stars. The moon appeared red when it was totally covered by the earth's shadow and stayed that way for about an hour. Just as the earth's shadow began to recede, an owl lifted off my roof and flew about 8 feet over my head before gliding into the cactus fields to our east. I felt blessed to be alive and witness such a magical moment.
